![]() ![]() Licensing and money are the only reasons there are so few free downloadable Kontakt Player libraries. And if you want to sell the library more expensive because it is more complex, it will be even more expensive. ![]() So an indie developer like Rigid Audio, Nova, or Synth Magic would have to put 2000€+ on the table before releasing their instrument for Kontakt Player. If the developer wants to publish a Kontakt Player-enabled synth instrument for €49 and is optimistic and estimates selling 300 licenses, the price will be 2176€ or more in detail:ģ,92 per license x 300 = 1176€ + 1000€ one-off-encoding fee = 2176€ Many of the libraries are priced affordably between 10€ and 50€. I’m a big fan of synth libraries from small developers that you can find at Loot Audio, for example. ![]() In these packages, some NFR versions are also free to promote the product. The more licenses, the more interesting the price becomes. With 3000€/$3000 USD, it is simply too expensive for most indie developers.įor commercial third-party libraries, the price depends on the number of licenses and the price the developer asks for. I think you can already see at this point why the market for free Kontakt Player is soo tiny. If the library attracts more people, you can buy another batch for the same price. The price differs here from a free to a commercial library.įor a FREE, aka promotional release, the developer has to pay 2500€/$2500 USD and get in exchange 25000 NFR serial numbers. Then the developer has to decide how many licenses he wants to generate for his library. Ouch, that’s a lot of money, especially for small developers. According to Native Instruments, this covers the development services for encoding, plus QA and integration into the NI ecosystem. Two scenarios: if a developer wants to release a free or commercial Kontakt Player instrument, they must contact the NI team and pay a one-off encoding fee of $1000 for each library. High Price For A 100% Free or Commercial Instrument ![]() The same applies to Reaktor Player libraries. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a free or a commercial library, both require them and cost a lot to the developer. This is because KP libraries require a Native Access 1/2 enabled license which costs the developer money. Kontakt PlayerĪlmost everyone has downloaded an exciting Kontakt Library and then, unfortunately, noticed that it cannot be played in the Kontakt Player or that it only lasts 15 minutes as a demo. But don’t worry, I will give you some details. The answer is relatively simple, but you have to know the background details that Native Instruments like to hide from the public. Again and again, questions come from the community, especially from the free plugin community, about why there are so few Kontakt Player libraries available. Native Instruments Kontakt Player, however, is just a stripped-down version and a player for licensed libraries. With the regular Kontakt sampler, you can design custom instruments, play third-party libraries, etc. Both are currently in the seventh version but differ significantly. There are two versions of NI’s flagship soft sampler: Kontakt, the full version, and the Player. There are tons of them, from small, fascinating sound designers to big players. Plugins and Kontakt libraries have something in common. Native Instruments Kontakt Player: many wonder why there are so few free and commercial releases, the answer is simple! ![]()

After eating one, a bar appears displaying how long is left until it expires. Before starting a game, players can choose three power-ups to appear during it (joining the Power Pellets, which always appear) and spend coins to level them up, making them last longer. Eating progressively larger totals of pellets, meanwhile, unlocks the other twenty-four weapons. By default, the enduring Power Pellets dot the maze. (Image: Bandai Namco)Ģ56 boasts a large arsenal. Offscreen ghosts may blindside you, one might teleport in front of you, or things will be positioned in a way that simply traps you. Collecting change doesn’t increase your score, but does give you currency to spend on enhancing Pac-Man’s power-ups. The latter adds a surprising intensity to 256, potentially overpowering all other audio. Kindly, the game counts each chain for you, and the longer one goes, the louder Pac-Man’s munching gets. This is encouraged if you eat 256 in succession, an explosion destroys all on-screen foes. Similar to contemporary Pac-Man titles, pellets exponentially increase in value if eaten consecutively. Arrangement -esque conveyor belts also occasionally appear, which speed Pac-Man up if he’s moving in their direction or slow him down if he isn’t. Tunnels appear along each side of the procedurally generated labyrinth, letting Pac-Man and his pursuers swiftly move between them. However, 256 ’s continues indefinitely - yes, this is the Pac-Man equivalent of an “endless runner.” A wall of doom perennially moves upwards, which can distort 256 ’s visuals and forces Pac-Man to keep charging ahead while evading ghosts. Like that arcade classic, our hero is trapped in a maze. Some are excellent and others subpar, but where does 256 rank? Crossy Road developer Hipster Whale’s crack at Pac-Man features a nifty premise, one inspired by a notorious bug plaguing the original. I have a long history with Pac-Man : unofficial DOS entry CD-Man is the second or third game that entered my possession, I’ve been playing Pac-Man proper for as long as I can remember, and Championship Edition DX is among my all-time favorites. The game’s simplicity makes it timeless, honestly surviving longer and reaching a new record is always exhilarating. Once every pellet in a stage is eaten, Pac-Man advances to the next one. Extra points can be obtained by eating fruits, which spontaneously appear and vanish. Four larger Power Pellets rest in each corner of the maze, which temporarily render the ghosts vulnerable to Pac-Man - and eating the creeps rewards you with bonus points. Every maze is filled with pellets, and consuming them increases the player’s score. ![]() ![]() Pac-Man starts with three lives, and additional ones are earned by hitting score milestones. Steeped in satire fixing on everything from Spartacus to Franco Zeffirelli’s Jesus of Nazareth, and buttressed by as many iconic lines as there are crucifixes holding up the film’s frames (as Brian’s equally squealy mother hollers to the swarming masses, “He’s not the messiah. Of course, Life of Brian isn’t the first film about Jesus (or: Jesus adjacent) to focus on the human side of the so-called savior-Martin Scorsese’s take popularly did so less than a decade later-but it feels like the first to leverage human weakness against the absurdity of the Divine’s expectations. As such, the British comedy group stripped all romanticism and nobility from the story’s bones, lampooning everything from radical revolutionaries to religious institutions to government bureaucracy while never stooping to pick on the figure of Jesus or his empathetic teachings. As a Christ story, the telling of how squealy mama’s boy, Brian (Graham Chapman) mistakenly finds himself as one of many messiah figures rising in Judea under the shadow of Roman occupation (around 33 AD, on a Saturday afternoon-ish), Monty Python’s follow-up to Holy Grail may be the most political film of its ilk. Pretty much made on George Harrison’s dime and considered, even if apocryphally, by the legendary comedy troupe to be their best film (probably because it’s the closest they’ve come to a three-act narrative with obvious “thematic concerns”), Life of Brian got banned by a lot of countries at the butt-end of the ’70s. Stars: Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, Michael Palin The first-time co-direction from onscreen performer Terry Jones (who only sporadically directed after Python broke up) and lone American Terry Gilliam (who prolifically bent Python’s cinematic style into his own unique brand of nightmarish fantasy) moves with a surreal efficiency. It certainly doesn’t look like a $400,000 movie, and it’s delightful to discover which of the gags (like the coconut halves) were born from a need for low-budget workarounds. If you’re truly and irreversibly burnt out from this movie, watch it again with commentary, and discover the second level of appreciation that comes from the inventiveness with which it was made. There are so many jokes in this movie, and it’s surprising how easily we forget that, considering its reputation. Holy Grail is, indeed, the most densely packed comedy in the Python canon. But, if you try and distance yourself from the over-saturation factor, and revisit the film after a few years, you’ll find new jokes that feel as fresh and hysterical as the ones we all know.
